The new United Nations special coordinator for Lebanon said Tuesday that under his leadership, the office would continue to work to resolve issues related to U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 that ended the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel.

“We will try to facilitate ... discussion on how to resolve certain issues that are very much under the mandate given to us by the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701,” Jan Kubis said after his introductory meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun, according to a U.N. statement.
