UNIC Beirut engages in vibrant discussion on UN priorities with Girl Scouts in Lebanon

With a Scout Salute the gathering began and ended! UNIC Beirut engaged with a group of 20 young women from Girl Guides of Lebanon-Byblos in a vibrant and insightful discussion on the UN system and priorities, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The session was part of a UNCG initiative that has been ongoing for years, and which aims at reaching out to both schools and universities and raising awareness about UN priorities, activities and programs, including the SDGs and the pillars of Agenda 2030.

UNIC Beirut representative briefed the young Guides of Lebanon on the UN system’s composition, main mandates, the work and operations of UN agencies in Lebanon, and the relevance of the SDGs in the context of Lebanon.  The session was more of an interactive dialogue that also focused on the role of youth in engaging and actively participating in the implementation of the SDGs.

UNIC representative also introduced the group to the recently launched UN Lebanon campaign “#TakeAStep” that aims at raising awareness on the SDGs and spurring the public to take simple but decisive actions to make a positive change in their own community.

The Girl Guides of Lebanon-Byblos is a national organization formed of girls only, which became a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1954.
