The Arab Forum for Sustainable Development kicked off Tuesday, bringing together representatives from over 15 Arab countries to discuss progress in the U.N.’s 2015 Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on reducing poverty and income inequality.

The event, held at the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia headquarters, is set to meet for three days in the name of “empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality in the Arab region.” A key goal of the forum is to discuss the progress Arab countries have made in achieving the 17 SDGs, by 2030 among all recognized United Nations members. 2019 marks the end of the first four-year cycle, at which point a review of each country’s progress will be completed.
