Guterres Urges Restraint after Lebanon

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday urged Lebanon and Israel to maintain a ceasefire on their borders and ensure full compliance with UN Security Council resolutions.

Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General, said Guterres “calls for restraint and calls on the parties to cease all acts that violate resolution 1701 and to prevent and stop hostilities.”

On Sunday, Hizbullah said it destroyed an Israeli military vehicle and killed and wounded those inside.

Israeli officials refuted claims by the Iranian-backed movement saying there were no casualties.

Tensions have risen in the last week between Israel and Hizbullah. Hizbullah chief Hassan Nasrallah said Saturday his movement had decided to respond to an alleged Israeli drone attack on the group's Beirut stronghold.
