UNIC Beirut joins IOM, UNDSS staff retreat in the heart of nature

On Friday 5 October 2018, UNIC Beirut team joined around 123staff members from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN Department of Safety and Security Section (UNDSS) in their retreat to foster teamwork and harness communication and networking skills among UN staff. The retreat was held in Pineland Resort, in Hammana rural area in Lebanon,and was organized by the “O Club for Sports & Events”. 

Located in the heart of Hammana pine trees, the Pineland resort presented a unique venue to create the right peaceful environment for a knowledge-sharing and fun event. The setting inspired all participants to engage in interactive games and teams’ race that created close bonds among each other and helped promote cultural diversity through friendly interactions. It also proved to be a catalytic instrument that promotes inter-agency harmony and synergy. 

Head of IOM office in Lebanon Fawzi Al-Zioud said that teamwork is to effectively work together towards a common vision. “I see myself as a member of the team, and I rely on the team who is the ultimate champion.”

UNIC Beirut Director Margo Helou, for her part, said retreats forge bonds of friendship and encourage effective teamwork among UN staff. “It helps improve staff performance and boost their creativity and response to clients,” she added.

UNDSS Chief Sabir Mughal said, “It was an exceptional experience that we all enjoyed. We sincerely appreciate the joint efforts put into organizing such a wonderful gathering, and we look forward to the next one”. 

The outdoor activities revolved around team-building and social interaction, and constituted a special occasion for all to network and exchange ideas and experiences in a relaxed natural milieu.

Participants in the retreat expressed their enthusiasm and gratitude for having been part of this retreat,and considered the retreat as a great experience and opportunity to network away from the usual office setting and its demanding environment.  

The day concluded with a closing ceremony whereby the first three winning teams were awarded golden, silver and bronze medals respectively. A group photo was taken in memory of this special day.
